Book Club is really an excuse to have a Food Club.

really. well, there is a book. Battle Royale by Koushun Takami. Definitely an entertaining “lord of the flies”-esque book . sort of make you wonder what you would do when faced with no option. play the game or not.

now that i got that statement out of the way, i’m going to make.......chocolate orange fondue. Not like it’s hard, but it’s an untested recipe that i’ll be imposing on folks at the book/food club.

Bittersweet Chocolate-Orange Fondue

ingredients
1/3 cup whipping cream
1 1/2 teaspoons (packed) grated orange peel
8 ounces bittersweet (not unsweetened) or semisweet chocolate, finely chopped
3 tablespoons Grand Marnier or other orange liqueur

preparation

Bring whipping cream and grated orange peel to simmer in heavy medium saucepan. Reduce heat to low. Add chopped chocolate and 1 tablespoon Grand Marnier; whisk until mixture is smooth. Remove fondue from heat and blend in remaining 2 tablespoons Grand Marnier.


okay. we didn’t have the orange liqueurs so i just added more orange zest. i used dark chocolate instead (cuz that’s what i had) and it turned out okay. the dipping things were strawberry, banana, orange, pears and grapes. i don’t know if i’ll make that again. and no photos. too busy eating......what i do want to try is a lemon pound cake with lemon glaze. :D yum sounding.

alex made an enormous batch of spaetzle, red cabbage, and sausage. all very good. all a total gut bomb. guess what we’re having for lunch today....
